Green Candle Senior Dancers

The Green Candle Senior Dancers meet every Tuesday in the Dance Studio in Oxford House, Bethnal Green at 10.30am - 12.30pm. The group is free and open to men and women with or without previous dance experience.

Senior Dancers perform at 'Through the Arch of the Imagination'

Under the leadership of Fergus Early, the Artistic Director of Green Candle Dance Company, the Green Candle Senior Dancers have been active for four years, taking part in a diverse range of events and opportunities around the London boroughs.

Green Candle's aim for the Senior Dancers is to provide the opportunity for older people in the local area to take part in regular exercise, enjoy gentle physical activity and develop their creativity! Exercises are designed to be fun and enjoyable with emphasis on maintaining and improving flexibility, balance, strength and motor skills. Each dance session includes a gentle body warm-up, followed by a more rigorous dance exercise, and concludes with a dance sequence. Different dance styles and genres of music are used to provide variety and encourage enthusiasm.

SENIOR DANCERS NEWS

Autumn 2010

Green Candle regularly work with the Sundial Centre in Bethnal Green and Senior Dancers were invited to perform as part of their 10 year anniversary. The group performed two dances and assisted Fergus in leading a seated dance workshop.

Summer 2009

Over the summer the Senior Dancers performed at many events including 'World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2009' at Toynbee Hall and the 'Global Village Dance Festival' held at East India Dock. Pieces performed included Apple Core, a new dance that developed the tree theme explored in previous dance Trees Breathe Our Breath and a Bollywood style dance that used Bangladeshi inspired movements.
