1996 saw the
company set up a unique project bringing together international
artists all over the age of 40. Tales from the Citadel, heralded
a new departure for Green Candle, working on a middle-scale collaborative
piece, with a performing company of 5 dancers and 3 musicians. Director
of the show, Fergus Early brought together a highly respected and
experienced company from a rich variety of backgrounds, ranging
from the Royal Ballet to the Martha Graham Company.
The cast included Brian Bertscher, one-time
soloist with the Royal Ballet, Jacky Lansley a principal orchestrator
of the New Dance movement, Tim Rubidge, Fergus Early and the legendary
Jane Dudley, former soloist with the original Martha Graham Company,
who at 84 has an impressive dance career spanning 60 years. Tales
from the Citadel toured to venues around the country from October
to November 1996 and included performances at the 1996 Dance Umbrella
Festival.
