TALES FROM THE CITADEL
1996

Fergus Early with a trumpet in his ear

1996 saw the company set up a unique project bringing together international artists all over the age of 40. Tales from the Citadel, heralded a new departure for Green Candle, working on a middle-scale collaborative piece, with a performing company of 5 dancers and 3 musicians. Director of the show, Fergus Early brought together a highly respected and experienced company from a rich variety of backgrounds, ranging from the Royal Ballet to the Martha Graham Company.

The cast included Brian Bertscher, one-time soloist with the Royal Ballet, Jacky Lansley a principal orchestrator of the New Dance movement, Tim Rubidge, Fergus Early and the legendary Jane Dudley, former soloist with the original Martha Graham Company, who at 84 has an impressive dance career spanning 60 years. Tales from the Citadel toured to venues around the country from October to November 1996 and included performances at the 1996 Dance Umbrella Festival.
