During May and June 2004, Green Candle toured a new dance
theatre piece Jack Be Nimble - for older people in London
and the South East. The performance was specially designed to be
seen in arts venues, sheltered housing projects, day care centres,
community halls etc. It featured three dancers and live music and
was based on the character of Jack, a candlemaker, who decides that
older people are getting a raw deal and decides to do something
about it.
The production and workshop was linked to the company's London-wide
two year research and accredited training project Dance Upon the
Level Shore, which aims to promote health and combat isolation for
older people through their engagement with dance and movement activities
with others.
"I will never forget
4 dancers and 8 HUGE umbrellas, or the sheer joy and delight which
lit up people's faces and set toes tapping to the Lindy Hop!”
