Come and Celebrate Big Dance at Oxford House!
5 – 14 July 2012
Big Dance 2012 will the be UK’s biggest celebration of dance so come along and join in one our free dance activities! The Language of Dance Centre, Green Candle Dance Company and Oxford House are working together to deliver dance classes during this week that cater for all ages and abilities. 5-14 July – Dance Exhibition, Open Daily 9am – 10pm
The OH Gallery will displaying the project ‘Irreversible Materiality’ by Tracey Fahy working in collaboration with Green Candle Dance Company. It documents dance amongst people in their Third Age, especially projects that break away from traditional dance projects with seniors; challenging stereotypes of older people’s capabilities to create a more optimistic view of ageing in our society. It is a collaboration with the Seniors Dancers (age 60+) from Green Candle Dance Company, based in Bethnal Green, London.
The Oh! cafe will also feature a smaller exhibition showing the history and work of the Language of Dance Trust.
Wednesday 11 July – Family Day
This day will be hosted by the Language of Dance and consist of three classes.
At 10am and 2pm there will be a chance for parents/carers and children aged 1-3 years to take part in our popular DancePlay classes. Open to all abilities, sessions will include nursery rhymes and songs, physical movement exploration, storytelling, relaxation, fun and laughter! At the end of each session there is a chance for you to chat and meet new people over complimentary refreshments.
There will also a chance for parents/carers and children aged 4-6 years to take part in our new DanceAdventures at 3.30pm. Open to all abilities these sessions will include fun warm ups, physical exploration, relaxation and more fun and laughter by working together!
These sessions are on a first come first served basis so please arrive 15 min early to ensure your place.
Friday 13 July – SagaCity! (age 50+) FREE
This day will be hosted by Green Candle Dance Company and celebrate dance and older people.

Saturday 14th July – Taster day for all
This is a chance for anyone and everyone to come a try dance for the first time, try a new dance style or maybe do something you know with a different group of people and make new friends!
2.00 – 2.30pm – Zumba with Claire Towerzey
2.45 – 3.15pm – Creative Dance with The Language of Dance
3.30 – 4.00pm – Street Dance with Green Candle Dance Company
4.15 – 4.45pm – Urban-Bollywood with Shareen Pennington
4.45 – 6.00pm – Good music to practise your new moves, snacks and refreshments for everyone!
All classes will take place in our large dance theatre at Oxford House. For those of you who would like to bring small children that may not be able to join in the class we will keep them entertained in the theatre with arts and crafts or they can simply watch you make your moves!
The class places are given on a first come first served basis so please be there 15 minutes before to ensure you get yours.
